Straight on Look

All we wanted was Birth Control!

Wal Mart is a terrible place. We went in to pick up a prescription for birth control, and next thing you know we were walking out with a 20 gallon fish tank. That's not the WHOLE story, because we went to petsmart and a few other places before we went back and got the tank, but STILL it wasn't planned.
2 Weeks later we decided that the Blood Parrot Cichlids were going to out-grow their tank, so we found a good deal on a 55 gallon tank in the classifieds. Now, we are seasoned "aquarists" (lol- thats the official term they call people who have an aquarium) with a ton of really cool fish.
The blue one, buzz, is an electric blue african cichlid. Also known as an 'ahli" cichlid. He comes from lake malawi in Africa, and is pretty terretorial. He likes to try and boss everyone around, and he usually does a pretty good job except being put in his place a few times.
The pink one, Nala, is actually a male. He and Simba (thr orange one, a female) are both Hybrid fish that you won't find in the wild. Blood Parrot Cichlids, as they are called, are some of the smartest fish around. Nala is the fish in charge of the tank. Despite being an inch or two shorter than Buzz, he will bite Buzz's lower lip when they are fighting and eventually win. She used to be aggressive towards Simba, but now mainly focuses on defending territory against Buzz.
Nala at one point had a rock stuck in his mouth about 3 weeks ago, and we took her out of the tank and tried to pull it out with tweezers. This is because if you do not get it out, and the fish can't get it out, the fish could die. Well, the rock ended up getting pushed further back down his throat but somehow he either spit it out when we weren't looking or its still sitting in there; whichever he is doing awesome.
The biggest fish is Bruce, a pleceptomus. He cleans the algae, and is a tank. He will occasionally chase Buzz around, which is funny, because nobody even thinks about messing with Bruce. He is not aggressive at all, when compared to the cichlids. When we had a tank divider in the tank, he would jump over it like it wasn't even there. Cool Fish.
Lastly, we have 3 Blue cobalt cichlids and 3 red zebra's. At least, that's what they probably are. We got them from a breeder for a total of 5 bucks for all of them, and their parents were a Blue Cobalt and Red Zebra. They are pretty fun to watch swim around.
That's out fish, pretty cool hobby instead of T.V. (we don't have cable) and it is sure to not offend you.

Working in the Shop DOES pay off. ..

At the most recent mission reunion, Sabra got locked out of her car. Instead of calling someone to come get her keys out, why not go to the local Bateman?
Word traveled somehow that I knew how to do this kind of thing, so we fashioned a slim jim and using some expertise from the good ol' days got it open in a few minutes.
Not only was I making a whopping 10 bucks an hour at the shop, but I picked up some interesting talents.

Like Michael Scott says, Its all about the perks.

The First Post, Ever.

25 November 2008 in the library.

What better way to start a blog than with a haiku.

Its a quiet night,
Not much going on. At all.
Making the Money.

Well, there it is. The VERY first post for the blog. That was exciting.
